How much does Convex cost?
Convex has a generous free tier: 1 million function calls/month, which is enough for most small-medium servers (50-100 players). Beyond that, pricing starts at $25/month for 10M calls. Self-hosting is also an option for full control.
Can I migrate from OxMySQL to CFX-DB?
Yes! CFX-DB provides a migration tool to import your existing MySQL data. The API is intentionally similar to OxMySQL, so most code changes are minimal. We provide a migration guide and compatibility layer.
What happens if Convex goes down?
Convex has 99.9% uptime SLA and automatic failover. For critical applications, you can self-host Convex on your infrastructure. CFX-DB also includes local caching, so read operations continue working during brief outages.
Is CFX-DB faster than MySQL?
It depends on the operation. Our benchmarks (both running locally) show: Simple queries are 2-3x SLOWER (218 ms vs 74 ms), but transactions are FASTER (169 ms vs 180 ms), and real-time updates use 12x FEWER queries. For bulk operations, CFX-DB is 6x faster. The key advantage is eliminating polling with subscriptions, not raw query speed. See performance metrics above for details.
Does CFX-DB support SQL queries?
No, CFX-DB uses Convex’s document-based query system, not SQL. However, the API is designed to feel familiar to OxMySQL users. Complex SQL queries can be reimplemented as custom Convex functions with full TypeScript support.
How do I handle schema changes?
CFX-DB includes a migration system. Define your schema in TypeScript, deploy with `bunx convex deploy`, and the migration is tracked automatically. All schema changes are versioned and can be rolled back if needed.
Can I use CFX-DB with ESX/QBCore?
Yes! CFX-DB works with any FiveM framework. You can use it as a drop-in replacement for OxMySQL in most cases, or run it alongside your existing database during migration.
What’s the catch with serverless databases?
Main tradeoff: you’re dependent on Convex’s infrastructure (mitigated by self-hosting option). Benefits far outweigh this: no server management, automatic scaling, real-time features, and significantly better performance. 95% of servers are better off with hosted Convex.
